Benefits of a Pollinator Garden

Pollinators are important for producing our food.
Animals such as bees, flies, and hummingbirds pollinate one third of crops grown globally, thus making tremendous contributions to our food production systems1,2. They are critical in urban farms and community gardens, which are on the rise in the US. This increase in urban agriculture is driven by the many potential benefits of producing local food in cities—such as improved nutrition, food security, and community cohesion3-9. Supporting pollinators helps these farms and gardens thrive. With our population growing and urban areas expanding, creating and conserving pollinator habitats is more important than ever.
